Catching Up with the Power Rangers Comics
Between work, school, family, and never-ending to-do lists, staying up to date with comics can feel like a challenge. If you’re like me, you’re always playing catch-up. Today, we’re diving into the conclusion of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers with Issue 122 and Darkest Hour #1, exploring whether this truly marks the end of the series.
But as one chapter closes, another begins—introducing Power Rangers Prime! We’ll take a closer look at Issues 1 and 2 to see if this fresh take stays true to its roots while successfully reinventing the franchise.
A Bittersweet Conclusion
Reading Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #122 and Darkest Hour #1 was an emotional ride—both exciting and frustrating. On one hand, these issues delivered plenty of action, nods to past lore, and an epic send-off. On the other, they left a lot of unresolved threads, making the ending feel rushed.
While Darkest Hour #1 sets up a dramatic cliffhanger rather than providing closure, it strongly suggests that the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers story will continue—perhaps under a different name. The conclusion felt grand, but it could have benefited from better pacing in the previous issues (MMPR #120-122) to tie up loose ends.
Is This Really the End?
For longtime fans, the finale may not have felt entirely satisfying, but it’s clear this isn’t truly the end of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers universe. Instead, it’s more of a transition. What’s next? Maybe a fresh take on Zeo? Exploring the Machine Empire as primary antagonists would be an exciting direction!
Regardless, while I’m a little disappointed in how MMPR wrapped up, I’m eager to see what comes next. If you haven’t read this series from the beginning, now is the perfect time to dive in!

Now that we’ve looked at the past, let’s jump into the future—Power Rangers Prime is pure gold! It brilliantly sets up a new era while staying deeply connected to its roots. And in a surprising twist, this isn’t just a Power Rangers story anymore—VR Troopers are officially part of the mix!
What’s Changed?
In Power Rangers Prime, the Power Rangers have been outlawed, and instead, the VR Troopers act as the official peacekeepers. Meanwhile, the Altarians—Zordon’s race—have occupied Earth, ruling with an iron fist. Angel Grove remains the heart of the story, but this time, our new team comes from a variety of alien backgrounds, evoking vibes reminiscent of Time Force.
This setup introduces themes of conflict, oppression, and even racial dynamics, giving Power Rangers Prime a deeper and more mature storyline.
Familiar Faces Return
One of the most exciting surprises? Rita Repulsa is back! Issue 2 focuses heavily on her, raising questions about her true role in this new era. Is she still purely evil, or does she have a larger part to play in the unfolding story?
Looking Ahead: What’s Next for Power Rangers?
Melissa Flores has once again delivered an outstanding story, proving her deep understanding of the Power Rangers universe. The anticipation is sky-high—when will the team finally unite and morph together? How will the VR Troopers fit into the bigger picture? Could the Power Rangers and Altarians end up working together against Rita?
No matter where this story goes, I’m all in!

This is an exciting time to be a Power Rangers fan. While Mighty Morphin Power Rangers may have ended inconclusively, Power Rangers Prime opens the door to a whole new world of possibilities.
