Welcome back to another edition of A to Geekz! Today, Julie is looking into her metaphorical crystal ball to predict the future of upcoming Lorcana cards. While we don’t have magical foresight, we can certainly dream up some exciting possibilities!
For this edition, we're focusing on The Hunchback of Notre Dame and have created five card concepts that we think would be a great fit for the game. If you’re unfamiliar, many Lorcana cards are inspired by characters and scenes from Disney films. For example, Let It Go is an action song card that forces an opponent’s character to be put into their inkwell, making it a fitting effect for the song’s theme.
Without further ado, let’s dive into the predictions!
Card #1: Quasimodo

Inspired by His Defining Moment
This character card is based on one of the final scenes in which Quasimodo is chained up but breaks free to save his friends. Given his heroic charge, we envision Quasimodo as a Ruby-aligned card with the ability Rush.
Stats & Abilities
Cost: 4 Inkable
Strength: 6
Willpower: 3
Quest: 1
Abilities:
Rush (can attack the turn it is played)
Mother’s Protection: Villains cannot deal damage to Quasimodo.
Rarity: Super Rare
How Would It Fit Into a Deck?
Quasimodo would be an excellent addition to an aggressive Ruby deck. He could also fit well into Ruby/Sapphire or Ruby/Amber decks, similar to Hercules and Maui, which already see play in Ruby/Sapphire builds. His high strength and ability to evade villain damage make him a strong pick.
Card #2: Esmeralda

Inspired by Her Escape Scene
Esmeralda’s card is based on her first appearance in the film, where she nimbly evades the guards. Her agile nature makes her a perfect fit for an Emerald deck with the Evasive keyword.
Stats & Abilities
Cost: 5 Inkable
Strength: 4
Willpower: 4
Quest: 2
Abilities:
Evasive (can only be challenged by other Evasive characters)
A Perfect Distraction:
If Esmeralda has no damage at the start of your turn, your opponent loses 1 lore.
If Esmeralda has damage, your opponent loses 1 lore and you gain 1 lore.
Rarity: Rare
Why Emerald?
Julie chose Emerald for Esmeralda because she plays an Emerald/Steel deck and thinks this card would be a great addition. Additionally, many Emerald cards already feature the Evasive keyword, making it a natural fit.
Card #3: Phoebus

Inspired by His Introduction
When we first meet Phoebus in the film, he is a captain and a hero. To reflect this, his card is designed to be a Steel-aligned bodyguard with shifting potential.
Stats & Abilities
Cost: 5 Inkable
Shift Cost: 3
Strength: 5
Willpower: 5
Quest: 1
Abilities:
Bodyguard (Redirects attacks to himself)
Rarity: Uncommon
Why a Shift Character?
Although Lorcana has not always introduced shift characters before their shift targets, there are cases where shift cards exist before their designated targets. This card serves as a teaser for future expansions.
Card #4: Claude Frollo

Inspired by His Ruthless Pursuit
Frollo, as the main villain, fits perfectly into a Ruby-aligned role. His card is designed to be low on attack but high on survivability, reflecting his manipulative nature.
Stats & Abilities
Cost: 4 Inkable
Strength: 1
Willpower: 8
Quest: 0
Abilities:
Get Them! – For each opponent’s character damaged this turn, this character gains +1 lore while questing.
Keywords: Storyborn, Villain
Rarity: Rare
Why High Willpower?
Frollo is a mastermind who lets others do his dirty work. His high willpower represents his ability to stay protected, but his low strength makes him vulnerable to abilities such as Brawl or Under the Sea. This balances his card while maintaining theme accuracy.
Card #5: Hellfire (Action Song)

Inspired by the Iconic Song
There aren’t many standout songs in The Hunchback of Notre Dame aside from Hellfire, which makes it the perfect candidate for an action song card.
Stats & Abilities
Cost: 4 Inkable
Ink Type: Emerald
Effect: Deal 1 damage to every character on the field.
Why Emerald?
This card serves as a balanced alternative to Grab Your Swords, which costs 5 Inkable and deals 2 damage to opponent characters only. Hellfire affects all characters—including your own—making it a great counter to Amber and Amethyst aggro decks while benefiting decks that have high-willpower characters.
