Welcome to Catching Up on Comics! This week, I’ll be diving into some fantastic issues, including the conclusion of Dark Knights of Steel, the start of Absolute Power, and the intriguing Annihilation 2099. Let’s jump right in!
Dark Knights of Steel #12 – A Medieval DC Masterpiece

The Dark Knights of Steel series has been a true treat from start to finish. If you’re unfamiliar, this series reimagines the DC universe in a medieval setting. Bruce Wayne, Clark Kent, and the rest of the gang are part of warring kingdoms, and the story is filled with fascinating twists and turns.
The final issue didn’t throw any major curveballs, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. A lot of comic series struggle to stick the landing, but Dark Knights of Steel did a solid job. The entire 12-issue run was fantastic, and even though the ending wasn’t mind-blowing, it was satisfying. The storytelling and artwork were consistently top-tier, making this series a must-read.
If you haven’t checked out Dark Knights of Steel yet, now’s the perfect time. The collected trade edition should be dropping soon, so keep an eye out!
Annihilation 2099 #1 – A Glimpse into the Future

I went into Annihilation 2099 with zero expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised. This issue features two separate stories: one about the last Nova (and it’s not who you think!), and another that serves as a prelude to a larger storyline.
The Nova story was especially intriguing—it had strong Old Man Logan vibes but was set in space, which made for a fresh and exciting take. The second story, which involves Dracula turning people into vampires, was interesting but not as gripping for me personally. Still, Annihilation 2099 seems like a solid start to something bigger, and I’ll definitely be checking out the Logan-focused follow-up issue.
Batman: Off-World #4 – The Journey Continues

I initially thought this issue would be the grand finale of Batman: Off-World, but turns out there’s still more to come! Batman faces off against a Thanagarian (yes, like Hawkman and Hawkgirl), which adds another exciting layer to the series.
What makes Off-World so engaging is its mix of high-paced action and sharp humor. It’s a fun, punchy read that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and I’m thrilled that it’s continuing.
The next issue doesn’t drop until August, so the wait is going to be tough, but it’s worth it.
Absolute Power: Ground Zero – The Setup
Before diving into Absolute Power #1, I started with Ground Zero to get some background. This storyline has been building for a while, dating back to Dark Knights: Metal by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo.
At its core, this is Amanda Waller’s big moment. She’s been scheming in the shadows, amassing an army, and now, the heroes are losing their powers. The stakes are incredibly high, and I’m eager to see how this all plays out.
Absolute Power #1 – Comic Book Perfection

Wow. Just wow.
This issue was everything I wanted it to be and more. Not only does it tie into current DC events, but it also presents a compelling antagonist in a way that makes the “bad guys” feel rational.
One of the coolest aspects? We get Amazo versions of the Justice League. If you’re even remotely into comics, you need to pick this up. It’s accessible for new readers but rewarding for longtime fans.
This issue was an absolute banger, and I’m officially hooked on Absolute Power.
Final Thoughts & What’s Next
That wraps up this week’s Catching Up on Comics! It was a fantastic batch of issues, and I’m excited to see where these stories go next.
Now, it’s time to get back to the family. Until next time—peace!
